# DictationDesk FAQ: price, privacy, offline, Windows

> Short answers to the common questions.

## Is DictationDesk really free?

Yes. Dictation, offline mode, dictionary, snippets, command mode and teams are free. Only Indian-language speech (not available yet) would be charged, at Sarvam's own price of ₹30 per audio hour, from prepaid credit.

## Can I download the Windows app now?

Not yet. The Windows app is in private testing. Leave your email on the download page and we will write once, when it can be downloaded.

## Does it work on Mac, iPhone or Android?

Not yet. Windows 10 and 11 come first. A macOS app and mobile keyboards are planned, with no date yet.

## Which apps does it type into?

Any Windows app with a text box: browser apps such as Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Word, VS Code and Notepad. It pastes at your cursor and puts your clipboard back.

## What is the hotkey?

Hold Ctrl+Win, speak, release. Ctrl+Win+Alt is command mode. You can change both in the app's settings, for example to Ctrl+Shift+Space.

## Does it work without internet?

Yes. Offline mode runs whisper.cpp on your PC. It is free and unlimited.

## Do you store my audio or text?

Audio is never stored. Text is not stored on our servers unless you turn on Cloud history, which is off by default. The app keeps your last 500 dictations on your PC, which you can turn off.

## Do you take screenshots of my screen?

Never. The app only reads the name of the focused app, for example slack.exe, to choose the formatting.

## How much memory does the app use?

About 13 MB while idle in the tray: we measured 12.8 MB on Windows 11.

## Is there a word limit?

No word limit. Cloud dictation has fair use of 40 hours of audio per month; offline dictation is unlimited.

## Is there a team plan?

Teams are free for up to 50 members, with a shared dictionary and snippets and usage per member.

## Can I dictate in Hindi or Telugu?

Not yet. Indian languages are built but switched off at launch. When they are on, they cost Sarvam's price of ₹30 per audio hour.

## Who makes DictationDesk?

Surge Software Solutions Private Limited, Bengaluru, India.
