# DictationDesk: free voice dictation for Windows

> What DictationDesk does, who it is for and what it costs.

DictationDesk turns your voice into clean, punctuated text wherever your cursor is. Free, against $15/month for Wispr Flow.

The Windows app is in private testing and not downloadable yet: coming soon.

## Example

You say: “Um, so hello team. The demo is, uh, at five today, no wait, at six today. Thanks.”

Typed into Notepad (our Windows test, offline engine): So hello team. The demo is at 6 today. Thanks.

## What the Windows app does

- **Works in every app**: hold Ctrl+Win in Gmail, Slack, WhatsApp Web, VS Code, Word or Notepad. Release, and clean text appears at your cursor.

- **Talks like you, types like an editor**: fillers (um, uh, you know) and false starts are removed. “No wait, at six” keeps only the correction. Say “comma” or “new line” when you want to.

- **Fits the app**: in email apps the greeting and sign-off get their own lines, chat drops the final full stop, and in code editors you can say camelCase, snake_case and symbols.

- **Command mode**: select text, hold Ctrl+Win+Alt and say “make this formal”, “shorter” or “bullet points”.

- **Offline and private**: an on-device engine (whisper.cpp) works with no internet. We never take screenshots, never store audio, never keep your text unless you switch history on.

- **About 13 MB of RAM**: built in Rust on the system WebView. Measured idle in the tray on Windows 11: 12.8 MB. Wispr Flow is reported at around 800 MB.

## Free, not $15 a month

DictationDesk is free, teams included. Wispr Flow Pro is $15/month. Wispr Flow also runs on Mac, iPhone and Android today; we are Windows-first.
